Volunteers Needed!
Plymouth Family Support Services' team of trained, experienced and supported volunteers is key to our services. To maintain the level of support we can provide, new volunteers are always needed. If you believe you can help, please contact us.
 
Training Programme
This Initial Training Programme (2 hours x 12 weeks) is accredited through the Open College Network South West and earns one credit at level 2.

Content:

  • Child Abuse Issues
  • The Child Protection System
  • The Roles of the Police
  • Social Services and Health Workers
  • Listening Skills
  • Safety for Voluntary Workers
  • Anti-discriminatory Practice
Community Based Preventative Work

Volunteers are involved in:

  • Befriending Parents and Young People
  • Independent Visitor Service for young people in care
  • Adoption Support
  • Specialist therapeutic groups and individual counselling for adult survivors of childhood abuse (We also offer Therapeutic Massage to complement this service)
  • Anti-bullying workshops in Schools
  • Extensive programme of training days for people who work with children and families
  • Monthly training and Support meetings for all volunteers
  • Plymouth Family Phone-Line (668686) An Information and Listening Ear Service
  • Undertaking research and developing new initiatives to meet community needs
