Specialist Counselling Service The principles of counselling:
- Helping the individual to live in a more satisfying and resourceful way.
- Respecting the individual's right to make their own decisions.
- Confidential counselling from professionally monitored and supervised staff.
- On initial meeting, the Counsellor clarifies contract issues relating to the basis on which the counselling is to be given, method, duration and Confidentiality Policy.
- Any changes are openly discussed and regular interviews included.
Confidentiality Policy Everything you say will be treated in confidence, but the Therapist is legally obliged to reveal the following: Information relating to Child Abuse (Children Act) Acts of terrorism (Prevention of Terrorism Act) and the Drug Trafficking Act (1994) or concerns for the safety of the individual or others.
The Way Forward Through the Therapeutic relationship you can leam to understand painful and often distressing emotions, gaining a different perspective on your life. This may ultimately bring about individual change.
With support, respect and acceptance you are given the opportunity to explore your own solution to the past and present, enabling a deeper level of self-awareness and self-acceptance.
The aim of counselling is to provide a safe, caring, confidential environment for individual or group members to work on pressing issues at their own pace in the safety of the therapeutic relationship, enabling the Client the opportunity to explore ways of living a more balanced, contented and fulfilled life.
